Sun 4/29, 7:00pm
Bedlam Theatre’s Cedar Riverside Art Zone for Youth and the Minnesota Historical Society present
“Oromiya’s Return”
an original short play by Jerrie Steele, featuring a cast of local East African performers.
“Oromiya’s Return” was inspired by the book “Once Upon a Time in Oromiya (Sheeko Sheeko): An East African Traditional Folktale” told by Lina Abdulaya and her family, with illustrations by Janet Curiel. The 30 minute play is set long ago in the land of Kush, modern day Oromiya in Ethiopia. After the death of Gadaa, a wealthy Oromo family loses everything, including each other, but a special gift from the Kush river spirit and Gadaa brings them together again.
Please join us for this celebratory evening including a meet and greet with the performers, food and additional Oromo cultural presentations. At Mixed Blood Theatre 1501 S. 4th Street in Minneapolis’ Cedar Riverside neighborhood.
