FRIDAY OCTOBER 1st 6pm-9pm
SATURDAY OCTOBER 2nd Noon-7pm
After leaving its West Bank location last month, Bedlam has set up a temporary headquarters for office, equipment and community vision sessions. The “BEDLAM COMMUNITY DESIGN CENTER” will be the launch pad for the next chapter of Bedlam, featuring office, meeting space, workshop and, oh yeah, a great place to keep all our cool stuff.
All are invited to join in an OPEN HOUSE on Friday and Saturday October 1st and 2nd, in conjunction with the 11th annual Seward Arts Festival.
The BEDLAM COMMUNITY DESIGN CENTER is located in the Ivy Arts Building at 2712 E 27th Street, just off 27th Avenue and facing the Greenway Bike Path in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis.
The OPEN HOUSE you can add thoughts and drawings to an interactive, visionary, Bedlam-future-home collage. We’ll have Everet’s local-made Kielbasa on the grill and hot apple cider to keep you satisfied.
FUTURE BEDLAM SHOWS and EVENTS
Throughout the fall and winter, Bedlam activity will include ongoing programs with our Cedar Riverside Arts Zone for Youth (CRAZY) as well as work with Mixed Blood Theatre to create an original work featuring Cedar-Riverside residents and stories. Bedlam’s continued presence in Cedar-Riverside is anchored by a satellite office at Mixed Blood and regular hours at the Brian Coyle Community Center.
Bedlam productions, cabarets, and music events will resume in spring and summer 2011. Bedlam projects will include the 10th Annual Bedlam Community Ten-Minute Play Festival, a Walker Arts Center partnership to present a new work-in-progress by internationally renowned Improbable Theater, Queertopia, the annual Infiammati Fire Show and more. All show locations are to be determined.
A VISION OF A PERMANENT BEDLAM
Bedlam’s vision of a permanent home is a multifaceted, social hub, performance venue and creation center. Our vision builds on the experience of Bedlam’s “Studio” location from 1996-2006 and “Social” location from 2007-2010. In the next home, we look to continue our evolution, support regional goals of sustainability and livability, and provide community access to the creative process as we support innovative artists in creating theater for the 21st Century.
As this vision becomes a reality, Bedlam will maintain a continuous presence in the Twin Cities cultural fabric, connecting with multiple organizations, neighborhoods and spaces.
We want to thank the City of Minneapolis staff, City Council members and Mayor Rybak for their attention and insight during the past three months as well as civic leaders, arts organizations, foundations and individuals who’ve generously given their time, thoughts and resources in helping us process our challenges and opportunities. We will continue to work with them throughout the fall in securing a permanent home for Bedlam.
