Mad King Thomas and Judith Howard join forces to produce a dance show of extraordinary measures!

An exploding sensorium of: capes, 300 pounds of ice, stuffed polar bears and an all-star cast, featuring Ted Howard (The Eighty Sixed) , Naomi Joy, Mad King Thomas, April Sellers, Erin Thompson and Morgan Thorson will accompany Judith Howard in her elegant, rowdy and dramatic array of dances taking place on multiple stages in the Bedlam theater.

Mad King Thomas delves into drag, mythology and social boundaries, throwing around sparkles and penis jokes with their usual fervor. Known for tying an over-the-top sense of humor to a darker commentary, they tackle questions of sex, identity, gender, power and self-determination with vulgar but honest hilarity, using bananas, dripping goo, and mermaid tails in a feast of performative delight.

Mad King Thomas is the Minneapolis-based choreographic collaboration of Tara King, Theresa Madaus, and Monica Thomas.  Winners of the 2008 SAGE Award for Best Performance  and 2009 City Pages Best Dance Performance, Mad King Thomas collaborates with mentor Judith Howard (SAGE Award for Best Performance 2006 & City Pages Best Choreographer 2005) to present ”The League of Red Herrings,” an evening of  dance with generous splashes of theater, humor, and other unexpected elements. Delving deeper than ever into gender and queerness with a slew of new characters, drag influences and perversely funny takes on authority, the group is  thrilled to provide interesting points of comparison and contrast to between their work and Howard’s, who greatly influenced and inspired them during their time as Macalester students.
