Since the December election in Belarus, there has been a crackdown by the government of “the last remaining true dictatorship in the heart of Europe.” Among the hundreds arrested were the members of the Belarus Free Theatre, who have faced censorship and repression since their founding in 2005.

Here is a New York Times Article about the company.

Alongside other artists and companies across the country, Bedlam Theatre, Commedia Beauregard, Frank Theatre, Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, Pillsbury House Theatre, Skewed Visions and Upright Egg Theatre Company proudly join the Free Belarus Project: an effort to raise awareness and support by presenting their latest play in as many places as possible in the month of January 2011.
