Bedlam heads toward the future with a bang! Since 1993, our mission has been to produce radical theater with a focus on collaboration and a distinct blend of community and professional art. Be a part of this community by helping make August, the last month in our current space, be the biggest, busiest, bust ass Bedlam yet! If you are a dedicated patron and Bedlam lover, there are a couple ways you can help make our last month in our current space count. There are three ways:
—
1. Come at Least Twice: Pledge to come out to Bedlam and bring at least one other friend with you twice this month. We want to test Bedlam’s capacity as a multi-faceted, broader community social hub dedicated to radical art and community building. Bedlam is Fringe Central this year, stop in after you’ve seen theater and meet others here; the roof top patio is wonderful in the summer! Let’s all make this possible; Please pass on the official Facebook event on to all your Bedlam-lovin’ friends (or just ALL your friends in general), and encourage them to send it forward to other friends so they too know the scoop – get yer ass out to Bedlam to see a show or enjoy some rations (or both!) twice or more in August! 2. Volunteer: We are looking for people who can help out our kitchen staff beginning August 5th until the end of the month. Duties will be;
Food Running / Bar Backing / Bartending (experience necessary at 9pm-3am on the weekends)
We are looking to fill the food run/ bar back shifts first. Shifts are from 6pm-11pm and 8pm-1am. For your help, we offer a drink and a meal ticket (in addition to some great karma and sincere appreciation, of course)! If this sounds like an opportunity you can dig, email wemakeit@bedlamtheatre.org, and tell us;
- Kind of shift/s you are interested in. You must be able to work a minimum of three shifts.
- Which shift times (6-11, 8-1, 9-3) you have available on specific days
Job Descriptions:
Food Runner/Bar Back: shifts include a lot of running around. Take order tickets from bartenders/servers in the lobby and dining areas back to the kitchen. Pick up food orders when they’re ready and bring them to the customers. Supply silverware, condiments, water refills. Bus plates and glasses. Cook support tasks as needed, setting up plates, trips to the walk in, chopping vegetables, washing dishes. Bar support as needed, bringing more beer or wine from the basement, washing cups. Minimal training, ok to sign up for one time or multiple.
Dishwasher: the Bedlam kitchen does dishes by hand in a three-hole sink. Shift includes a lot of time standing with your hands in suds, cavorting with the cook. Additional Cook support tasks as needed, setting up plates, trips to the walk in, chopping vegetables, running orders to the bar or customers. Minimal training, ok to sign up for one time or multiple.
Patio Bartender: at the upstairs Bar when open for busy nights. Considered a “Server” shift, so experience on checking ID’s or specific training required. You will use the patio cash register for simple transactions but tabs will be closed at the downstairs bar. Mostly stationed behind the bar but responsible for bussing tables and offering refills on the patio as well. Closing the patio, clean tables, sweep, empty trash and recycling, empty ashtrays, etc. Ok to sign up for one or more shift.
Server: apron on, order pad, pens and menus in hand, working a section, taking orders, serving drinks. Experience preferred. Must receive specific training on IDing or have specific experience IDing for beverage service. Bartenders will ring up tickets, so no training necessary for cash register. Patio shift includes a lot of stair climbing. Training on food and beverage menu. Please sign up for at least 3 shifts.
Moving Crew: Sweat and heavy lifting. Calm, focus and care for moving delicate (as well as heavy) equipment. Wear heavy duty shoes or boots, glooves are useful too. Ok to sign up for just one.
We’ll have other opportunities to help with moving and organizing if your interest isn’t in the kitchen, so check back soon! For currently available shifts, please see below.

3. Give: If you have cash to spare and want it to land in the right place, make a donation to Bedlam today at http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Bedlam-Theatre. Remember, ANY little bit helps!
