A night of celebration for our new record and our new video. Also featuring performance art, puppetry and music by some of our favorite artists in town. The night is presented as a revue; reverent performance turned rollicking-holiday-weekend party with all of your favorite people. We’re releasing a new record and a new video, that’s true. We’re also kicking off a six-week tour that will take us across half the country. So come to celebrate and wish us well in our travels. But this night isn’t just about us. When we do something we’re proud of, we want to share it by inviting some of our best friends to celebrate with us, folks who inform and inspire what we do.

ABOUT THE NEW RECORD
Our new 7” includes two songs, “Serves You Right” and “Young Girl’s Heart”. If you buy a physical copy of the record, you get a free download that includes a brand-new unreleased song called “Ghost of My Father”. Like our debut record (and pretty much everything else we do), the artwork and packaging is all handmade. We recorded it live at The Old Blackberry Way Studio in Minneapolis (thank you, Neil) and mastered it at the Boiler Room in Chicago (thank you, Collin).

ABOUT “MIRROR”
Our first video was created, shot, and edited by the brother-and-sisters trio within Spirits: Jason, Alyssa and Rachel Overby. It features intricate and delicate handmade puppetry and performance by all three, set to the song “Mirror” from our debut record, Hunter Moon. At this event we’re going to do something we’ve never done before: perform the song live to the video. Following the performance, the video will be available online on our website.

ABOUT SPIRITS
The City Pages recently honored us with Best Acoustic Performer, and we liked the words so much we’re going to use some of them here instead of our usual ones: “… A group of eight musicians swell and sway in unison, gathering around one another to listen for breaths and pauses, squeezing their eyes shut as they strum banjos and mandolins, bow cellos, and brush an old snare drum while singer Will Garrison amazingly, astonishingly sings out loudly enough for everyone in the room to hear … That the group has only played the Twin Cities four times in the past year and a half is a shame, but it’s also a testament to their nomadic nature; Spirits of the Red City spend their time drifting from place to place, setting up in coffee shops and anarchist bookstores and street corners across the country and rippling their pensive, dynamic love lore out into the ether.” Spirits is: Will Garrison (guitar, lyrics/vocals) Jason Overby (accordion, banjo, guitar) James Waldo (cello, viola da gamba) Ben Waldo (mandolin, viola) Alyssa Overby (singing) Rachel Overby (bass, singing) Brian Voerding (trumpet, pump organ) and Anthony Poretti (percussion).
