Great Heresy Theatre Company kicks of its Fringe Festival season this year on July 25, 10pm, with a raucous rock concert at the Bedlam Theater, featuring music by local singer/songwriter Gerald Prokop and his three-member backup band, as well as electronic artists Ghostband and Ficshe.

Bedlam acts as a fiscal sponsor to Great Heresy–donate HEREThe second annual Heretics’ Ball is a benefit for the Great Heresy Theater Company’s Fringe Festival show. This year’s production, Strange Weather, is a post apocalyptic Greek tragedy set in the Midwestern Great Plains.

The evening will also include a silent art auction, a sneak preview of the Fringe Festival show, appetizers, a cash bar, a Chalkboard of Heretical Confessions both at the event and on the theater company’s blog (where participants are invited to express their heretical thoughts), costumes (participants can get $2 off the door charge by dressing as a “denizen of rural dystopia”), and other interesting and surprising elements.

Last summer, the Great Heresy Theater Company made its way onto the Twin Cities theater scene with its adaptation of Bruno Schulz’s The Street of Crocodiles, said by Star Tribune reviewer Claude Peck to “[deserve] cheers for tackling such great source material with passion and inventiveness.”

The benefit will run concurrent with another Bedlam event—sketch comedy group Panda Sandwich and Box Wine Theatre Company will be performing their double-header, "Pre-Fringe Appetizers" at 7:30.

Tickets will be $10 at the door for the Heretics’ Ball, or $20 to attend both the Heretics’ Ball and Panda Sandwich.
