TenFest Submission Deadline

Sun, Mar 15, 2009 - 12:00am

  • Sun 3/15, 12:00am

Bedlam Theatre is accepting submissions for its Eighth Annual Community Ten-Minute Play Festival. The deadline is March 15th to submit:

* Ten-Minute Play SCRIPTS
* Ten-Minute Project PROPOSALs
* Directors resumes

submitting is easy: JUST SEND SUBMISSIONS WITH YOUR NAME AND THE TITLE OF THE PLAY TO tenfest@bedlamtheatre.org

Project PROPOSALs apply to pieces that will be created during the rehearsal process, as well as non-text performances. Project PROPOSALs tend to include a specific Creator/Director and/or Creative Team with the proposal. Scripts tend to be connected to a Director after the script has been accepted.Bedlam Theatre is gearing up for another year of Community Collaborative Adventures

The Bedlam Community Ten Minute Play Festival started in 2002 and every year comprises up to two dozen original short works.

The performances are all 10 Minutes (yes, we’re gotten strict about it), however the performances are not necessarily “plays”. We are gleefully un-strict about that!

Past performances have included:
 - Puppet/object shows
 - Dance pieces
 - Performance art
 - Weird visual-sound-collage-collaborations (What the hell was that…)

Why we do it:
 - Try ideas for new projects: Many of Bedlam’s bigger productions start at the play festival.
 - Meet New Artists: The festival is a great way to meet Bedlam artists, and for us to meet you!
 - Expand your talents: Here is a good place to step into a new area, be it acting, direction or design.
 - Work with community: Even if you don’t consider yourself a performer or never will be one again, this is the best place to see what being onstage is really about.

We will be accepting both scripts,  project proposals and director’s resumes, now through March 15th, 2009.

The selection of projects and project leaders is a competitive process. However, all project leaders work together to run an open audition process, and provide roles for all interested.

Project Leaders/Directors should be aware of the following.
 - Auditions are on April 5th from 2 to 5pm, followed by a  casting meeting.
 - You will need to be present at auditions, or be able to send a proxy that you trust to cast your show.
 - and remember, one of the goals of the play festival is to cast all who audition, and project leaders agree to work together to make this happen.**

**Note on casting everyone. Within this there is a range, of course. There’s often one or two shows that come with a specific cast tied to the project, and one or two that are well suited to a big community cast. Most projects fall somewhere in between, but we all still work together to cast everyone.

What if I don’t have a play written?
 -No problem. We are offering a series of free play writing workshops at the theatre. The workshops will be held on 2/15, 2/22, 3/1, and 3/8 from 2 to 5pm.

What if I want to be an actor?
 -Great! We’ll be holding auditions on April 5th from 2 to 5pm.

All events will be at Bedlam Theatre, 1501 6th S, Minneapolis. We’re on the West Bank, right by the Cedar Riverside Light Rail stop.
