Monkey Bar is a frolicsome, playful dance series and the latest venture by the dance and choreography duo Non Edwards and Missa Kes. Experience the artistic playground they leap, swing, and slide through; Bedlam Lowertown is transformed into a performance jungle gym twice a week. Each 60-90 minute show features all brand-spanking new acts, no two shows will be the same!
Once they’ve marked their territory, witness them team up with other artists during performance playdates. Admission is free, so knock back a few and stay young at Bedlam’s hybrid theater/club/restaurant. Party. Monkey business. Are you game?
Non Edwards is a monkey’s uncle. They call her ‘The Hot Potato.’ You may have seen her monopolizing the swingset. Besides rollicking with Missa, she bounces and cavorts for Deborah Jinza Thayer/Movement Architecture and roughhouses for Jennifer Glaws. Capitalism is the monkey on her back.
Missa Kes is a grease monkey. They call her Red Rover. You may have seen her having a temper tantrum in the sandbox. Besides throwing the ball around with Non, she whips and bobs for Deborah Jinza Thayer/Movement Architecture and fiddles with her own dance film projects. Winter is the monkey on her back.
Since May, as a duo, Edwards and Kes have romped around 9×22 Dance/Lab, skipped about Future Interstates, and dived head-first into co-producing their evening-length dance performance, Super-Mad-Body-Jack, at the Bryant-Lake Bowl.
Tuesdays at 7pm and Sundays at 5pm; November 29th through February 2nd, 2016

The remarkable true story of an American WWII officer who liberates the Czech villages where his grandparents had lived. Performed by the officer’s grandson with rare film footage, period music and vintage photos. It’s Luke Skywalker’s story, except it really happened. A soldier fights the Nazis from Omaha Beach to the Battle of the Bulge all the way to the last week of the war, when fate turns his story from yet another soldier’s tale to something from mythology. The Czechs hail him as being “liberated by one of our own,” and in doing so they unlock the mystery of his identity.
